Service is at 11a and lasts about an hour. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and don’t feel obligated to give money. We’re a smaller group and notice visitors, but no one will make you stand up and introduce yourself.

We’re a community, not a concert. We sing folk songs and traditional hymns with piano and organ. The first half of service includes call and response, scripture readings, songs, a prayer, and an interactive children’s lesson. The sermon usually lasts 15-20 minutes, followed by announcements and a final hymn. We take Communion once a month.

Children are welcome to stay in worship or go to Sunday school. We also have Sunday Bible study each morning at 10a in the parlor, no prep required.

No matter what your family looks like, you are welcome here. Childcare begins at 945a and concludes at the end of church events, but kids are welcome in service and all activities.

The nursery (ground floor, center of the building) opens at 1045a. Prior to this, nursery care is provided upstairs. Drop kids off in the Children’s Room (2nd floor) from 945-11a, or kids can join for service. Service includes a children’s time where we engage kids at their level. After, children are welcome to stay in service or join Sunday School upstairs.

We take safety seriously. All childcare workers are background checked and at least two adults are with children at all times.

Feel free to reach out to Pastor Colleen at colleen@dhbc.org in advance of your first visit. More about our families ministry >>

We are poor, rich, black, brown, white, young, old, families, empty nesters, young couples, singles, straight, gay, cis, trans, outgoing, shy, tattooed, old-fashioned, cutting edge, pierced, normal, weird, believers, doubters, lifelong Christians and brand new to church.

A small, growing community, we are diverse economically, racially, and in terms of age, gender, and sexuality.

We are united by a sincere desire to pattern ourselves after the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. We don’t pretend to have all the answers, or have our lives completely together. We are committed to bringing grace, compassion, kindness and justice into the world, one small act at a time. Learn more >>

We are a congregation open to all persons who are seeking to follow the way of Jesus. Instead of requiring confession of a statement of faith, we unite around common practice. We don’t demand everyone believe the same thing all the time. Everyone here is at a different place in their faith journey.

But the love of Jesus is at the center of everything. We emphasize:

  • Jesus’s love and how it can free us to love more (rather than only avoiding punishment).
  • Jesus’s life and teachings and how they can help us live in relationship (instead of only focusing on his death).
  • Jesus’s vision for a whole new creation (instead of only seeking individual salvation).

We are guided by three principles: radical inclusivity, thoughtful spirituality, and caring community. Learn more about what we practice >>

Visiting a church can be scary. Our promise is to be a warm, welcoming, radically inclusive community.

Radical inclusivity means that, recognizing that we are all “one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28), we affirm our equality in the family of God and in this congregation regardless of social status, education, race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental ability, physical ability, position, or any other distinction.

We call ourselves “pro–LGBTQ” because we do not believe being LGBTQ+ is a sin. Some churches use terms like “welcoming and affirming” or “reconciling.” These terms are great, but you shouldn’t need to know insider language to know where we stand. They also do not go far enough. LGBTQ+ folks are not only “welcomed” and “affirmed” by the church, they are the church. There are queer folks in most churches. But here, you never have to lie about who God created you to be. Learn more >>
